The forces acting to create weather are of an enormous scale that involves areas of several thousand square miles. Historically, man has submitted to weather. Our attempts at controlling our surroundings have always been on a small scale, from creating a shelter from rain to supplying light sources at night. Eventually civilizations attempted more ambitious controls. During dry seasons, the Native Americans utilized choreographed dances specifically to encourage the gods to provide rain for their parched fields. In Japan dolls are still position upright to encourage sun and reversed when adequate sun levels are reached and rain is desired.
In the modern age entire fields of research are devoted to the detection and prediction of weather. Major intellectual talent researches weather control sciences for economic and defense purposes. Many outcomes of major wars were heavily influenced by the climate. The US military has long tried to control the weather for reasons linked to both defense and combat. The farming industry utilizes techniques to secure harvests. Scientists, Weather Engineers and Space Specialists are working towards a massive breakthrough that can change human civilization forever: Artificial Weather Modification. The process when perfected, can transform agriculture, defense, economics, nearly every aspect of human existence. Many experts predict that the future of war may be on an atmospheric dimension. Most of these initiatives are classified and hidden from the general public.
During this time the world has experienced some of the worst natural disasters in memory. The 2004 Tsunami killed hundreds of thousands throughout Asia and devastated the regional tourist based economy. In America, Hurricane Katrina wiped out entire cities leaving them uninhabitable even after a year of recovery efforts. Magnitude of the destruction must make us question the current value system that defines an economic and technological superpower of the world.
The scale of weather dwarfs human existence. The New Weather group extrapolates the forces acting to create weather. The Group is collaborative of four individuals that intend to refine and abstract elements of weather throughout the world.
Each individual delivers various skills and knowledge that fuse to generate the urban scale spectacle.
The New Weather Group consists of the four core members Thomas Damgaard , Rahul Saggar , Masayuki Sono , Martin Stigsgaard and a worldwide think tank of peripheral collaborators. The primary group consists of architects, artist, and engineer located centrally to access the furthest corners of the world at a moments notice. Any weather event is readily accessible. The NWG will be working from within an established network, but will rely heavily on consultants from various fields. During projects the group utilizes site and region to develop a concept that engages local inhabitants as resources and observers.
